You're charging money for sacred culture. That's a sellout move.
The culture dies if no one can afford to keep it alive. I'm not selling out, I'm making sure it survives. In my V+A=P framework, economic value is one of the pillars that can lead to preservation. I think there needs to be more discussion about the term "sacred culture". Well, yes, many cultural practices are sacred, but I think we have to be careful not to romanticize the culture when it is placed above people's basic needs. An elder was asked by a student what they do to preserve their culture, and they responded that their goal is not to preserve the culture. Their goal is to survive, provide for a family, and put food on the table. So yes, capitalism—hyper-capitalism—is certainly detrimental to cultural practices, but we cannot forget the basic needs of people.
