If those "flares and ornaments" are colonizer's interpretations, how do *you* personally reconcile that in your own Sulat work? Do you actively strip them away, or is there a tactical reason to still use them?
It depends on the work. Sometimes I'll write it more angular like how it's scratch on bamboo. When I tattoo, yeah, I like to treat the leg as bamboo and write it angular. But for the artwork that has calligraphy or looks very Japanese Zen, yeah, it is art as my individual expression, things that I like. When I tattoo and write more angular, that's cultural practice. There's a difference.
