You talk about creating a mirror, forcing people to question themselves. What's one thing you believe about Pre-Filipino Sulat, or cultural revival in general, that most people don't—and probably wouldn't want to hear?
We base most of our thought process and aspirations on Spanish documentation or the rich Filipinos who were leaning more towards the Spanish or Western way of life. Then we call those works as part of a decolonization. For example, for the writing, it's based on western handwriting. All the little flares and ornaments. That's not how we originally wrote with knives where it was much more angular. So if we say the script is part of the decolonization process but we're writing in the colonizer's interpretation then is it really decolonization?
