You just said questioning helps you come from a place of 'curiosity rather than complaining or being a hater.' But you've also been direct about 'punching up' against 'authority' who 'spits out bullshit.' When do you drop the 'curiosity' and go straight for the 'punch,' especially when you're dealing with what you know is 'bullshit'?
It could depend on the tone, where there are some things that are quite obviously wrong, and then there's confidence and arrogance to it. Then I guess I have to show my own confidence and arrogance. But I think it is a gray area. But to your point, I would say that punching down is curiosity most of the time. I know that can sound bad or condescending, but you know, the value is in the conversation. There have probably been times when I thought something was wrong; then I got curious, and they said, “Oh, okay, I understand that.” There was one example where someone had, or what I thought was, a wrong Bai Bai in Tatu. They had the Na character, but later explained that it was a mountain. It was still wrong in a different sense, yet I understood where they were coming from. I didn't have to agree with it, but I just let it rest. Because it was also punching down, this was a white tourist. So, you have to pick your battles.
